It is twice the growth of public transport (NMBS-SNCB and STIB-MIVB) which was already good.
Last week Pro Velo together with Bruxelles Mobilité published his "Observatoire du vélo en région de Bruxelles Capitale" or "Het Brussels Fietsobservatorium 2019".
Here are the main conclusions:
Since 2010, the average yearly growth is around 13%.
Meteo impact is limited (rain, snow, etc.).
Use of helms is increasing (around 60%).
Share of e-bikes is growing from 12% in 2018 to 20% in 2019. In a hilly city like Brussels, it is the easiest solution to go in most places.
30% of the bicycle equipped to carry children are cargo bikes (12% in 2018). The cargo bikes are booming (long tails and front loaders), it's an alternative to the car to carry more than one children or heavy load.
25% of the cyclists riding by night don't have adapted lights and only 24% are wearing a reflective jacket. To conclude, this shows that the bicycle is part of the Brussels mobility mix.
Thanks, Fanny de Smet and Emilie Humbert for this report.
