The FOD Mobiliteit en Vervoer / SPF Mobilité et Transports published Monitor together with Vias institute: a survey on the Belgian's mobility.
Since 1999 the use of the car slightly decreased from 67% to 61% and the bicycle increased from 8% to 12%. In Brussels, public transport (24%) and walking (24%) are the two main alternatives to the car (46%).
It's always interesting to see the modal split by distance (see chart below). For more than 2 km, public transport (incl. the train) and bicycle represent real alternatives.
