In the last "baromètre de l'entreprise" or "Ondernemingsbarometer" from Beci, it appears that mobility is the top priority for 75% of the entrepreneurs in Brussels (against 68% 6 months ago).
It shows as well that 75% of them are ready to make the working hours more flexible to reduce traffic jams in Brussels.
Now that we are on a holiday period and that the traffic jams significantly reduced, there are two sets of figures that I like to remind:
10% fewer cars on the road during peak hours lead to 40% fewer traffic jams
- 25% fewer cars on the road during peak hours lead to no traffic jams anymore
In other words, when we talk about mobility or modal shift, would it be once a week only, the impact is already significant (i.e. 20% fewer cars). Or from another point of view, a modal shift for 100% of your company population is not possible, but for achieving it for only a part will have a great impact. Indeed for some, the car remains the only alternative.
